When she loved me...

Just regular Robot and Monster fanart that I am so happy to submit to the awesome group. My second drawing of Perry and...well, if you've watched nearly all the episodes of RnM, you'd understand what the title of this picture is talking about.

If not, let me explain:

If any of you had seen the episode "Come On, Get Happy", that was Perry's first major episode in which we find out that his facial gears are broken, causing him to smile endlessly, something he has to live with and if often a joke throughout the show, an example of dark humor.

So you can't exactly blame him in My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic cartoon crossover picture 'shutting up' Pinkie Pie during her 'Smile' song [link] True, there are times when Perry genuinely does smile on the show...but if you keep talking about it, let alone sing about it, he will NOT be amused.

If you recalled during the scene in the Blinking Lights Factory when Gart just coldly dropped unfortunate news on Perry(before we had any clue he was stuck smiling), one thing Gart mentioned was that Perry's wife left him.

His wife...

Although we sometimes can't exactly tell his emotions with that never-ending smile of his, I felt the blow that Perry had when he was told about his wife leaving him.

That's just so sad.

I talked with my good friend and fellow RnM fan about Perry's personal life, and how fans often see him as 'something to laugh about', considering a running gag on the show is seeing him get hurt, get mad, or become involved in the main characters' crazy situations.

We discussed about how there might be more behind Perry's 'broken smile' as I like to call it. Sometimes I like to consider him as having 'tears of a clown' sort of emotion. True, we've always seen him humorously enraged or on occasion become a bit cynical and willing to take risks for fun. But then we see that there's a pained individual behind those frozen Mechanical teeth of his.

I know it's never been mentioned since "Come On, Get Happy", but I have this feeling Perry, when he has time to himself, often thinks about his wife and how she just suddenly deserted him. We may not have ever seen his wife, but we can tell she probably had no idea how badly she hurt him if he performed any other expression besides a smile.

The way I see it, back when his marriage was intact, he HAD a reason to actually smile. His wife having formerly being part of his life could have been when he TRULY smiled.

When I think of Perry and how his wife left him, I think of Jessie from the Pixar movie Toy Story 2, about how she felt abandoned by her former owner Emily and the song 'When She Loved Me' played(hence the title of this picture).

But, from what we fans have seen on the show, he's moved on, possibly trying to date again...but deep down, I'm sure his wife left a scar on him that might not ever go away for a long, long time.
